Μαραθώνιος Αθήνας - Ο Αυθεντικός

The Μαραθώνιος Αθήνας - Ο Αυθεντικός (Athens Marathon – The Authentic) is a race steeped in history, held in Athens, Greece, on 7 and 8 November 2026 with a marathon plus 10 km and 5 km road races. Staged every year in early November, the 42.195 km race follows the legendary route of Pheidippides from the town of Marathon to Athens, commemorating the Battle of Marathon and its enduring symbolism. The Marathon Race starts at 8.30am on 8 November, preceded by the 10km Road Race allwyn at 8am; on 7 November, the 5km Road Race COSMOTE TELEKOM starts at 5pm and the 5km Universities Night Run allwyn at 8pm.

Regarded as one of the toughest marathons because of its long climb between kilometres 10 and 31, the race draws large numbers of international and Greek runners, with more than 40,000 participants across several distances. The marathon finishes in the historic Panathenaic Stadium, venue of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, making for a finish rich in both sporting and cultural meaning. Officially organised by SEGAS and designated a Gold Label road race by World Athletics, the Athens Marathon also serves as the Greek national marathon championship.
