The Trail of the Dragon 50K/50mile Run in Ida Grove offers a 50-mile (80.5 km) race starting at 6 a.m. and a 50K (31 miles / 49.9 km) at 7 a.m. on July 31, 2027. Held in Moorehead Park, it runs in loops over varied terrain through historic areas, including old stagecoach trails, cemeteries and challenging hills with sweeping views.

Two aid stations provide water and snacks, and runners must carry their own hydration. The event supports the Ida County Conservation Foundation and is held alongside the Moorehead Park Trail Mazathon.
