Madison Marathon Montana

The Madison Marathon Montana takes place near Ennis on July 10, 2027, with a marathon (26.2 miles / 42.2 km), a half marathon (13.1 miles / 21.1 km) and a team marathon relay. It is no ordinary road race: it is one of the highest-elevation road marathons in the world. Limited to just 200 runners under U.S. Forest Service regulations, this high-altitude challenge is run entirely above 8,500 feet (2,590 m), with the start line at 9,250 feet (2,820 m).

The course follows the Gravelly Range Road in Montana, with sweeping views of alpine wilderness, wildlife and big skies. What makes the race unique is not just the altitude but also the close-knit community of participants, the pristine ecosystem and the wild beauty of Big Sky Country. It is not unusual to spot bears or wolves along the course, and even more common to make lasting friendships. The Madison Marathon is also the second leg of the coveted Madison Trifecta.
