About

The Heart of America Marathon, organized by the Columbia Track Club, is one of the oldest marathons in the United States, first run in 1960 in Columbia, Missouri. The course is known for its tough profile, taking in Easley Hill, gravel roads, and scenic stretches along the Missouri River. Runners can enter the traditional 26.2-mile marathon or a team relay version, both under a six-hour time limit. The race leans on self-sufficiency, with limited aid provided along the route, and it has built a reputation for demanding conditions balanced by strong community support. Awards include recognition for the biggest performance improvements as well as the usual overall and age-group prizes.
