Veins of Gold is a tough 8-mile (12.9 km) mountain race starting from the Government Peak Recreation Area in Fishhook at 9 a.m. on August 15, 2027. The terrain is varied: steep trails, loose rock, shale, tundra, dirt and a few stretches of paved road. Unpredictable mountain weather can make the challenge even harder.

Safety comes first, and mandatory gear includes 500 calories, a jacket and a hat and gloves. The Alaska Mountain Rescue Group looks after participants' safety. Runners must stay on marked trails, leave no litter and help anyone in difficulty. The race rewards outstanding sportsmanship and offers well-stocked aid stations and a supportive community atmosphere.
