The Race for Open Space - CA is a trail race in Carmel-by-the-Sea on May 8, 2027, with a choice of the 35K+ (21.7 miles / 35 km), the 25K (15.5 miles), the 12K (7.5 miles), the 5K (3.1 miles) and a 1-mile fun run. Organized by the Big Sur Land Trust, it lets participants enjoy Monterey County's natural open spaces and the benefits of being active outdoors.

The event is held at Palo Corona Regional Park, with trail courses through the Palo Corona Backcountry, an area normally closed to the public. The 35K+ and 25K start at 8:00 a.m., the 12K at 8:30 a.m., and the 5K and fun run at 9:00 a.m. Inside Trail Running handles race logistics, including timing and safety.
