Mountain to Valley Relay

The Mountain to Valley Relay sets off from Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel on 15 October 2026. It is a single 215 km relay split into consecutive legs that teams share out among themselves: the number of sections each runner covers depends on the size of the team. The route is a way to take in the landscapes of the north of the country and to promote distance running.

A relay of this length calls for different preparation from an individual race: each runner tackles several legs a few hours apart, often at night, so training for repeated efforts matters more than a single long run. Logistics count as much as fitness, from organising the support vehicle to fuelling between legs and coping with broken sleep. It is an ideal format for a club or a group of friends, with everyone choosing legs suited to their level.
