Montpelier Mile

Kick off the Independence Day celebrations in Montpelier with the Montpelier Mile, the fastest mile in Vermont, on July 3, 2027. This 1-mile race (1.6 km) runs through the historic downtown in front of thousands of enthusiastic spectators gathered for the parade.

The flat out-and-back course starts on State Street at the Vermont History Museum, continues to the Main Street roundabout and then returns to the finish. For extra excitement, the "Dash for Cash" awards $50 to the first runners to reach the corner of Main and State Streets. Top finishers also win cash prizes or gift cards in the adult, junior, youth and kids divisions. With an evening start and a festive atmosphere, it is a high-energy race that welcomes all ages and launches a night of parades and fireworks.
