Mad Marathon

Mad Marathon is held on July 11, 2027, in Waitsfield, Vermont, in the Mad River valley. Everything starts at 7:00 a.m.: the marathon (26.2 mi) and its relay, the half marathon (13.1 mi), a two-person half relay and a half-marathon walk.

Offering a walking category over the half distance tells you the organisers expect people to be out there for a while, which on Vermont's hills is realistic. For runners, the valley roads roll continuously — there is no flat section to settle into — so pick an effort rather than a pace and expect your mile splits to vary by a minute either side of the average.
