Hellgate 100K

Hellgate 100K runs from Natural Bridge Station, Virginia, on December 12, 2026, over a single 100K (62 miles) trail course. One distance, one field, and a mid-December date in the Virginia mountains make this a deliberately narrow event: there is no shorter option and no way to scale back your ambition once you are entered.

A 100K at this time of year is defined by darkness and cold as much as by mileage. Expect many hours of headlamp running, temperatures that drop through the night, and mountain footing that stays technical whether or not you can see it. The preparation that matters is specific: long runs finished in the dark, a tested layering system, and food you can still stomach when it is cold. This is a race for experienced ultrarunners, not a first 100K.
