About
The Festival Foods La Crosse Marathon takes place in La Crosse, Wisconsin, in early May, and begins at the top of Grandad Bluff, about 590 feet above the city. Runners enjoy a sweeping view of the Coulee region while descending the bluff, then finish along the Mississippi River at Riverside Park. The marathon (26.2 miles) starts at 6:00 AM, the half marathon (13.1 miles) at 7:00 AM and the 5K run or walk (3.1 miles) at 8:00 AM. A long descent is gentler on the lungs than a climb but harder on the quads, so a few downhill training runs are a good idea before race day.
