Cocoa Classic 5K

Cocoa Classic 5K takes place at the Mount Vernon School in Sandy Springs, Georgia, on February 13, 2027, starting at 9:00 a.m. The 5K (3.1 miles) is run on a USATF-certified course that can be used to qualify for the Peachtree Road Race, and prizes go to the top finishers. The event raises money to provide new athletic shoes to children from families in financial difficulty in Sandy Springs, in partnership with Shoes That Fit, a nonprofit that supports elementary school children in need across the United States.

A certified course is worth seeking out when you want a time that counts, and the Peachtree qualifying angle gives this one a concrete purpose. To run it well, spend the preceding six weeks on two quality sessions a week, something like 5 x 1,000 meters at 5K effort and a 20-minute tempo, wrapped around easy running. Warm up for a full 15 minutes with strides; a certified 5K rewards being ready from the first step.
