About

The Bird-in-Hand Half Marathon, 5K, and Kid's Fun Run offers a rare chance to run through the heart of Pennsylvania Amish Country, in Leacock Township, Lancaster County. Set among rolling farmland, the event blends endurance and heritage, with a 5K at 6:30 p.m. on September 10, 2027, and the half marathon (13.1 miles / 21.1 km) at 7:30 a.m. on September 11.

The half marathon course is mostly paved and winds through fields, past horse-drawn buggies and welcoming Amish farms. Aid stations are staffed by local Amish families, and the famous handmade horseshoe medal, crafted from real used horseshoes and Amish leather, celebrates both the runners' efforts and the culture of the region.

The weekend includes a campfire and s'mores evening on September 10 and a lively post-race picnic on September 11. Runners who complete both distances take on the Fire Company Challenge. Community-run and proudly low-tech, the race is as authentic as the land it crosses.
