About
WILD Wahatoya Runs are held in La Veta, Colorado, on September 26, 2026. Organized by Trail Trash Adventures, the event offers three trail distances: a 50K (31 miles) starting at 6:00 a.m., and a half marathon (13.1 miles) and an 8-mile run both starting at 10:00 a.m. La Veta sits in the mountains of southern Colorado, so the running takes place at elevation on trail.
The 8-mile is a good fit for newer trail runners or those traveling with the ultra crowd who want a shorter race the same day. The half marathon works as a first mountain trail race for anyone with road half marathons in their legs, and the 50K is a first-ultra candidate for runners who have trained on hills. Altitude will slow everyone down, so get in early if you can and pace by effort rather than by watch. A 12- to 16-week build with weekly climbing sessions, downhill practice, and long runs on trails will prepare you for any of the three distances.
