Waves & Whales 5K Trail Run/Walk

Waves & Whales 5K Trail Run/Walk is held on May 8, 2027, in Point Arena, on the Mendocino coast of California. The single 5K (3.1 mi) starts at 10:00 a.m. and runs through forest and along the coastal bluffs of the Point Arena-Stornetta Unit. Walkers are welcome, and the proceeds support the Students Protecting the Coast programme run by ACORN Partners in Education.

A 10:00 a.m. start is unusually civilised for a trail race and makes this an easy one to travel to on the morning itself. Five kilometres on uneven ground runs slower than the same distance on the road, often by a minute a mile or more, so warm up properly beforehand: a 5K gives you no time to ease into the effort.
