About

The Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon takes place in Loudoun County, Virginia, near Leesburg, about an hour west of Washington, DC, in late May. The half marathon (13.1 miles), 10K and 5K all start at 7:00 a.m. It belongs to the Destination Races Wine Country half marathon series and is the only East Coast edition.

The course winds along scenic back roads past vineyards, horse ranches and historic estates, with gentle elevation changes and rural views. The finish leads to a Wine and Music Festival at Doukenie Winery, where runners can relax, taste wines and enjoy live music. A limited field gives the event an intimate feel. Rolling country roads mean a steady effort works better than a fast start.
