About

Provisional date: Saturday 21 August 2027. The RAT is held on the third Saturday of August (16 August 2025, 15 August 2026). Mud Crew has not announced the 2027 date yet: this page will be updated as soon as it is published.

The RAT (Roseland August Trail) is an ultra trail festival on the South Cornwall coast path, between St Anthony Head, at the tip of the Roseland Peninsula, and Porthpean, on St Austell Bay. Every race finishes at Porthpean, home to the festival village, race registration and camping.

Four point-to-point routes (2025 figures): The Plague (64 miles, about 4,000 m of ascent, starting from Porthpean just after midnight for an out-and-back to St Anthony Head), The Black (32 miles, about 2,000 m of ascent, from St Anthony Head), The Red (20 miles, about 1,400 m, from Portloe) and The White (11 miles, about 800 m, from Gorran Haven). The evening before, the BOYD is a 24-hour race on a 5-mile loop between Porthpean and Black Head.

Expect demanding terrain: coast path, steps, rocks, stiles and gates, a few short road sections and plenty of climbs and descents.
