The SPASM Lake Chabot Trail Run takes place in Castro Valley, California, in early April, around Lake Chabot reservoir and the surrounding hills. The event starts at the marina and offers five trail distances: a 50K (31 miles), a marathon (26.2 miles), a 30K (17.9 miles), a half marathon (13.1 miles) and an 8K (5.0 miles). The first four start at 8:30 AM and the 8K follows at 8:45 AM. The well-designed course suits beginners and experienced participants alike, and the day is as much about fitness and camaraderie among running enthusiasts as about the time on the clock. East Bay hills can be steep, so some hill training helps.
