About
Chabot/Redtail Ridge Trail Run takes place in Castro Valley, California, on February 20, 2027. Five trail distances go off in sequence: the 50K and 30K at 8:30 a.m., the half marathon (13.1 miles) at 8:45, the 10K at 9:00 and the 5K at 9:15. The event takes its name from Lake Chabot, in the hills on the east side of the Bay.
Ridge running means climbing, and the trail version of each of these distances will feel slower than its road equivalent, so plan your effort by time rather than by pace. For the 50K, a 14- to 16-week build with a weekly long run on hills is a reasonable target; the 30K and the half suit runners already at ease with two hours on their feet. The 10K and 5K make sensible introductions to trail racing if your mileage normally lives on pavement.
