Madeline Island Marathon

An island race brings a constraint no road marathon usually has: you arrive by ferry, which fixes your travel on both sides and leaves little margin on race morning. Come the day before. Lake Superior also keeps mid-May cool and can produce a stiff wind on exposed stretches — ideal racing temperatures, but a headwind you should meet by effort rather than by fighting for pace.
