International Snowdon Race

The International Snowdon Race takes place on 17 July 2027 in Llanberis, Wales. The single race covers 15.4 km with 994 metres of ascent: a climb to one of the most iconic summits in the country, followed by the descent.

A major fixture in mountain running, the event attracts elite athletes from across Europe and relies on the commitment of local volunteers. The ratio of distance to climb sets the tone: nearly a thousand metres to gain over 15 km, which is closer to a vertical race than a classic trail race. The fast, punishing descent demands as much preparation as the climb. A runner coming from the road would do well to practise sustained power hiking on steep gradients and get used to footing on cambered ground before toeing the line.
