About
The Honor Abe 5k, the annual Abraham Balawi Memorial 5K, takes place in Liberty on June 19, 2027, with an 8:00 a.m. start. It honors the legacy of Abraham “Abe” Balawi, a talented athlete and student at Liberty High School.
Abe, who passed away in 2017, was an accomplished runner who won the Class AA state title in the 1600 meters in 2014 and went on to run at Mercer University. The race supports the Abraham Balawi Memorial Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to deserving students in Pickens County, and proceeds also help fund local cross-country and track events. Runners of all abilities are encouraged to join in to support local students and remember Abe's lasting legacy.
