About
Starting from Camp Shenandoah in Swoope, Virginia, this out-and-back course climbs and descends Little North Mountain before a steep push of more than 2,400 feet over about 4 miles to the summit of Elliott Knob. From there, the route heads north along the ridge of Great North Mountain, crossing and following the Wild Oak National Recreation Trail before continuing on to the top of Reddish Knob.
Runners keep heading north to Briery Branch Gap before retracing their steps back along the course to Camp Shenandoah, without returning over the Elliott and Reddish summits. Distances range from a half marathon (13.1 miles) up to the full 100 miles, all sharing this rugged Appalachian ridgeline route.
