About
End of the Road Half Marathon & 4 Miler draws athletes from across the United States to Taylor Township, Pennsylvania, on October 24-25, 2026, for racing on an abandoned section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike that includes two historic tunnels. Saturday at 9 a.m. brings the 26.2 Road Closed Rambler Challenge (26.2 miles), the 17.1 Tunnel Traveler Challenge (17.1 miles) and a half marathon (13.1 miles); Sunday offers a second half marathon at 8 a.m. and the One Tunnel 4 Miler at 8:20 a.m. Part of each course runs through the tunnels, so a headlamp or flashlight is required, and the field is capped.
Running blind into a long tunnel changes your rhythm more than you expect, so test your light in the dark before race weekend rather than on the start line. The old roadbed is paved and steady, which suits an even-pace effort. Entry also supports converting the abandoned highway into a greenway, a project run with the Bedford Fulton Joint Recreation Authority.
