The Dirty Kiln Trail Races take place in Frankstown Township, Pennsylvania, in early April, at Canoe Creek State Park. The organizer, Allegheny Trailrunners, Inc., is a nonprofit that donates all net proceeds to charity. Runners choose between the Long Course, a half marathon (13.1 miles) starting at 9:00 AM, and the Short Course, a roughly 10K (6.2 miles) starting at 9:15 AM. The routes cover a mix of terrain, including wide paths, narrow singletrack, stream crossings and muddy sections, so shoes with good traction are a smart choice. The shorter option is a friendly introduction for anyone new to trail running.
