About

Eklutna IceBreaker is held in Anchorage, Alaska, on March 20, 2027. One format is on the program: a 10 Mile race starting at 10:00 a.m. A ten-mile road distance is an uncommon and useful one, long enough to test your endurance but short enough that you can race it without needing a full marathon build behind you.

Ten miles rewards even pacing above all else. Run the first three at an effort you could hold all day, then push from halfway if you still feel strong. To get ready, put a weekly long run of eight to ten miles in your schedule and add one tempo session of four to five miles at comfortably hard effort. The late-morning start is a practical touch in an Alaskan March: it gives you time to eat properly and to warm up thoroughly, which matters far more than usual when you are lining up in cold air.
