Deseret News Marathon is held on July 22, 2027, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The marathon (26.2 mi) starts at 5:30 a.m., the half marathon (13.1 mi) and 10K (6.2 mi) at 6:00 a.m. and the 5K (3.1 mi) at 7:00 a.m. It is the oldest road race in the state and among the oldest marathons west of the Continental Divide.

A 5:30 a.m. start in late July is not tradition for its own sake: the Salt Lake valley is hot by nine, and the race is designed to be over before then. Plan a four o'clock breakfast, rehearse it once in training, and remember that the finish comes in the middle of the city's Pioneer Day celebrations — the crowds late in the race are part of what you are entering.
