City2Surf Sydney

City2Surf Sydney is one of the world's largest road races, with nearly 90,000 runners on the start line. The 14 km course runs from Hyde Park in Sydney's city centre to Bondi Beach, New South Wales, Australia.

Although the route is entirely urban and sealed, it includes around 221 metres of elevation gain, including the famous Heartbreak Hill, a two-kilometre climb that begins at the 6 km mark. The race takes place on 8 August 2027, in the middle of the southern winter, typically in mild, sunny conditions.

Founded in 1971, the event has become a much-loved fixture combining competition with a festive atmosphere, with plenty of runners in fancy dress and a strong charity spirit, as it raises funds every year for a range of causes. Several Australian champions have shone on the course, including Steve Moneghetti, a four-time winner.
