Barnyard Squatch 5K

Barnyard Squatch 5K is a trail 5K held on October 25, 2026, at the Barnyard Sanctuary in Blairstown, New Jersey, on a property of nearly 200 acres. Sassquad Trail Running organizes it, the start is at 10:00 a.m., and it is open to every pace and level of experience, from seasoned trail runners to hikers. Proceeds go to the sanctuary, which takes in rescued farm animals.

Off-road 5Ks ask for a different skill set than road racing: you run by effort rather than by pace, and you give up seconds on uneven footing without it meaning anything about your fitness. That makes this a good low-pressure introduction if you have only ever raced on pavement. A couple of easy trail runs beforehand, in shoes with grip, is enough to feel at home on the day.
