Cliffhanger 5K/10k is held in Kansas City, Missouri, on October 24, 2026. Three formats share a 9:00 a.m. start: the Cliffhanger 8K, the Cliffhanger 5K and a one-mile option, so everyone in a group can head out at the same time and regroup at the finish.

A single gun for three distances means the opening stretch is crowded and mixed in pace, so line up honestly and give yourself a quarter-mile before judging how the race is going. The mile is a sharp effort suited to children and to anyone testing their speed; the 5K is the natural choice off a month of steady running; and the 8K asks for a little more endurance, ideally a weekly long run of five to six miles through the autumn. Warm up beforehand rather than easing in.
