The Willie McCool Memorial Half-Marathon, 5K & 10K takes place at the Silent Wings Museum in Lubbock on October 9, 2027, with the half marathon (13.1 miles / 21.1 km) and 10K starting at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K at 8:00 a.m. It honors the memory of Space Shuttle Columbia pilot Willie McCool, a Coronado High School graduate and a passionate runner.

The courses are designed to evoke a space-themed journey, passing through the Lubbock Business Park and tree-lined areas, with views of the countryside, before finishing at the museum. The event celebrates McCool's legacy and offers runners a unique experience inspired by his love of running and his ties to Lubbock.
