SunSmart 5K

SunSmart 5K takes place in Key Biscayne, Florida, on December 12, 2026, with a single distance on the schedule: a 5K. The route runs across the island, between the beach and the town, and the ocean stays in view for much of the way. Kids' and junior races are also on the program, so families can line up on the same morning.

A coastal 5K like this one is an easy way into racing: four to six weeks of two relaxed runs and one short interval session per week, say 400 to 800 meter repeats at goal pace, will get you to the line ready. If you already have a base, use it as a quick read on your current fitness, and hold back early. On 5K, a first mile run too hard costs you more in the second half than it ever gains up front.
