Sunburst Races

The Sunburst Races take place in South Bend, Indiana, in late May, with a half marathon (13.1 miles) at 7:00 a.m., a 10K run at 7:35 a.m., a 5K run at 7:00 a.m. and a 5K walk at 9:00 a.m. Children aged 6 and over may enter the shorter races, while the half marathon is open from age 10.

Finishers receive a medal. After the race, a gathering with activities for families and a beer garden for adults features a band or DJ, games and kids' entertainment, so the morning turns into a small festival. The walk starts later, which gives spectators and slower walkers a relaxed option. Northern Indiana can be cool and breezy at that hour, so a layer for the start is useful.
