About
Steel Rail Race is held on May 16, 2027, in Pittsfield, Berkshire County, Massachusetts. Three distances are offered: a marathon (26.2 mi), a half marathon (13.1 mi) and a short 8 km (4.97 mi), on roads crossing the county. Start times and elevation gain are not listed in our records.
The Berkshires are hill country, so treat a marathon here as a course to be managed rather than raced: run the climbs by effort, let the descents come to you, and set a target ten minutes softer than your flat-course best. The 8 km is the sensible entry point for anyone who has not raced on rolling terrain before — long enough to teach the lesson, short enough that it costs nothing.
