About

St. Clement's School Wildcat Mile is run in El Paso, Texas, on October 23, 2026. The event is a straight 1-mile race with a 5:30 p.m. start, which makes for a short, intense evening rather than a long one: most runners are done inside ten minutes, and the whole thing is over before dinner.

The mile sits between speed and endurance, and it hurts in a way longer races do not. If you want to run it well, do a few sessions of 400-meter repeats slightly faster than goal mile pace with generous recovery, plus strides twice a week to teach your legs to turn over. Warm up properly, since there is no time to ease into a mile, and expect the third quarter to be the hardest part. For younger runners and first-timers it is an ideal introduction to racing.
