About

The Sportspectrum Firecracker 5k Race for Research, together with its health walk, is an annual event in Shreveport honoring Ran Kiper, Jim Wilhite and Robin Fell, all three passionate about the outdoors and community involvement. It takes place on July 4, 2027, with a Kids Fun Run at 7:30 a.m. and the 5K (3.1 miles) at 8:00 a.m.

Sponsored by the Spine Institute of Louisiana Foundation, the race supports spine research. The course runs through the scenic South Highland Subdivision, and awards include cash prizes and commemorative mugs. Proceeds go to research, and refreshments are served after the race. Strollers are allowed provided they keep to a walking pace.
