About

The Snowbird Challenge (50k - 13.1 - 5.2 - Relay) is a winter endurance event at Riverwest Preserve in Greenville, South Carolina, on January 23, 2027. The half marathon (13.1 miles) and the 5-miler start at 8 a.m., with the 50K (31 miles) and the Reindeer Relay, a twelve-leg team format of 2.62 miles each, following at 9 a.m. The course is run as repeated loops on rolling trails with river views, and aid stations along the way carry snacks and drinks.

The loop format is a real advantage on the longer options, since the athlete village stays within reach all day and makes gear changes and pacing decisions simpler than on a point-to-point ultra. Relay teams get short legs and a long stretch of downtime between them, which turns the day into something closer to a group outing. For the 50K, build toward a three-hour long run on trail and rehearse your fueling on those days rather than improvising in January.
