The Sky Island Trail Race takes place on demanding singletrack trails in West Texas and appeals to endurance sport enthusiasts.
Runners can take in the region's natural beauty while testing their endurance on courses of 17 miles (27.4K) and 31 miles (49.9K). The route offers sweeping views of local landmarks such as Fort Davis, the McDonald Observatories, Indian Lodge, and a sky that feels endless. Founded in 2015, the event fosters a community atmosphere reminiscent of summer camp. Every finisher receives a prize and a post-race meal, with special awards for top finishers and masters categories. Runners are reminded to hold on to their bib, which doubles as a meal ticket.
