Run Crazy Horse

Run Crazy Horse is a race weekend at the Crazy Horse Memorial, with a marathon (26.2 miles / 42.2 km), a marathon relay and a half marathon (13.1 miles / 21.1 km) all starting at 8:00 a.m. on October 3, 2027, plus a 5K (3.1 miles) on October 2, 2027, at 1:00 p.m.

At the 2026 edition, the 5K was held on October 3, 2026, in Hill City, South Dakota, with a 1-mile kids' race at 12:45 p.m. ahead of the 5K start at 1:15 p.m. It runs point to point on the Mickelson Trail, mostly downhill, and complements the longer distances of the same weekend, appealing both to local runners and to friends and family of marathon and half marathon participants.

A mid-afternoon start is unusual and means planning your day backward: last proper meal three hours before, then a light snack. The downhill profile favors fast times, but a downhill 5K calls for caution, since your stride naturally lengthens and can punish your quads.
