About
Route 66 UltraRun starts in Seligman, Arizona, on November 14, 2026. It is a 140-mile (225 km) ultramarathon that can be tackled solo or as a team, with a separate Route 66 UltraRun Team category. As the name says, the event is built around historic Route 66, and at this distance nearly everyone will be running through the night.
A 140-mile ultra is a serious undertaking. Solo runners should have several 100K or 100-mile finishes behind them, a crew and pacing plan, and a training block of four to six months with weekly volume built around long back-to-back runs, plenty of time on feet at night, and rehearsed fueling. The team format opens the distance to relay groups who split the miles into manageable legs, which makes it approachable for club runners without ultra experience, provided everyone can handle repeated efforts on tired legs. Either way, the skills that matter are patience, consistent eating, foot care and managing sleep. Go out far slower than feels reasonable; the last 40 miles will decide the finish.
