About

Rim to River 100 is a single-distance trail ultra held in New River Gorge National Park & Preserve, West Virginia, on October 23, 2026. The only format is the 100-mile race, which starts at 6:00 AM. With no shorter option, the event is built entirely around the 100-mile experience, and the name describes the terrain in a nutshell: trails that move between the rim of the gorge and the river below.

Repeated descents to the river and climbs back out will punish quads that are not ready, so your training should include long downhill running and hiking on steep grades, not just mileage. A 24-week build with back-to-back long runs, some night running, and a rehearsed nutrition plan is a sensible baseline. This is a race for runners who already have a 50-mile or 100K finish and want a 100-mile with real vertical rather than a flat first attempt. Give yourself a generous time buffer in your pacing plan.
