About

Renfro Rock 'N Run Half Marathon / 5K is staged in Renfro Valley, near Mount Vernon, Kentucky, on October 24, 2026, as part of the Rockcastle Regional Countywide Stride series. The half marathon (13.1 miles) starts at 8 a.m. and the 5K run and walk follow at 8:05 a.m. The route takes in rustic cabins, lakes and farms, and the theme encourages costumes inspired by 1980s music, with a costume contest awarding a cash prize based on Facebook likes. Awards go to top finishers in several categories in both races.

Safety rules matter here because the course is not closed to traffic: local support services patrol it, headphone use is restricted, and strollers and dogs are not allowed. Run the tangents carefully and stay aware of what is behind you. For the half itself, a 12 week build with a weekly long run and some rolling-terrain practice is the right preparation.
