Punisher Night Runs

Punisher Night Runs take place in Mesa, Arizona, on November 14, 2026, put on by Aravaipa Running. Four trail distances are on the program: a 30K (18.6 miles), a 20K (12.4 miles), a 10K (6.2 miles) and a 5K (3.1 miles). As the name announces, these are night runs, so whichever distance you pick you will be racing in the dark with a headlamp on Sonoran Desert singletrack.

Racing at night changes the job more than the distance does. Your field of vision shrinks to the beam in front of you, rocky footing demands constant attention, and pace naturally drops by a minute or more per mile. Test your headlamp and its battery life on real trail beforehand, and consider entering one notch below what you would choose in daylight. The 5K and 10K make a sensible first night race, while the 30K works as a late-season session for anyone building toward a desert ultra.
