OBX Turkey Trot 5K & Fun Run

OBX Turkey Trot 5K & Fun Run takes place in Southern Shores, North Carolina, on the Outer Banks, on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2026, and is put on by OBX Go Far. The morning runs in three waves: the children's quarter-mile fun run at 8:30 a.m., the 1-mile run/walk at 8:45 a.m., and the OBX Trot 5K (3.1 miles) at 8:50 a.m.

The schedule is built so that families can do it all: cheer the youngest runners in the quarter-mile, walk or run the mile together, then send the 5K runners off just minutes later. For the 5K, six weeks of three short runs a week is enough for a comfortable finish, and one weekly session with a few minutes at a faster pace will help if you want a quick time. The Outer Banks can be windy in late November, so a light windproof layer is a smart addition, and a short warm-up jog before your wave will take the chill off.
