About

The No Hands Trail Run takes place in Auburn, California, in early January, with all four distances starting at 7:30 a.m.: a 50K (31.1 miles), a 35K (21.7 miles), a half marathon (13.1 miles) and an 8K (5.0 miles). The courses follow the historic Western States Trail and include demanding climbs and varied terrain.

Runners cover single-track along the banks and canyons of the American River, with some steep uphill sections, set against the Sierra foothills and the Auburn State Recreation Area. The mix of distances lets newer trail runners and experienced ultrarunners share the same trails. Winter conditions in the foothills can leave sections muddy or slick, so shoes with good traction and a plan for climbing efficiently will help, particularly on the longer courses.
