Newport News One City Marathon

Newport News One City Marathon is a point-to-point road race through Newport News, Virginia, spread over two days. The Maritime 5K and the combined Carrier and Submarine Challenges start at 8:00 a.m. and the Nautical Mile fun run at 9:30 a.m. on March 6, 2027, with the marathon (26.2 miles) and the half marathon (13.1 miles) both starting at 7:00 a.m. on March 7. Runners take in the parks and waterways of the Virginia Peninsula and its historic neighborhoods before finishing downtown near Newport News Shipbuilding, the only builder of aircraft carriers in the United States. The marathon is a Boston qualifying race.

The challenge entries, which pair the 5K with the marathon or the half, are a fun way to make a weekend of it, though they do cost you a little freshness. Chasing a qualifier instead? Race the marathon alone off an 18-week build.
