The New Balance Fifth Avenue Mile is run in New York on September 12, 2027. The program features a single distance, the road mile (1.6 km), with the first start scheduled for 7:20 a.m. As the name suggests, the race takes its course along Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.

The mile is over in a matter of minutes, run close to maximal aerobic speed, and leaves very little margin for error: go out too fast and you pay for it right away. Preparation centers on short intervals, a few fast strides and, above all, a long warm-up, closer to a track session than to a 10K. For distance runners, it is a good chance to test their speed at the end of the summer season.
