About
Moscow Mountain Madness is a trail running event held in Moscow, Idaho, on October 4, 2026, organized by the Palouse Road Runners. Three formats share the day: a 50K (31 miles), a half marathon (13.1 miles) and a 5 Miler, all run on trails around Moscow Mountain.
With distances stretching from 5 miles to 50K, this is a race you can grow into over several seasons. The 5 Miler works as a first taste of trail racing or a hard tempo effort, the half marathon suits runners moving from road to dirt, and the 50K is a reasonable first ultra if you already have a marathon behind you. Early October in northern Idaho usually means cool running conditions, so plan your build accordingly: for the 50K, aim for a 16-week block with a long run every weekend, a few of them on hilly, technical ground, and at least two runs in the three-hour range. For the shorter formats, 8 to 12 weeks of consistent mileage with some hill repeats will get you ready.
