About

The Moravská Sázava – Ultra 50, also known as the Moravskosázavská 50K, is a point-to-point ultra that follows the Moravská Sázava valley upstream from the town of Zábřeh to the river's source on the slopes of Buková hora. Organised by Morava Flow, a non-profit sports association from Olomouc, the race was first held in 2025 and takes place in mid-July. The start is at 9 am from the Zábřeh skatepark on U Sázavy street in the Rudolfov district, and the finish line sits on the very summit of Buková hora, at 958 m, beside the top station of the chairlift.

The 50 km course packs 1,369 m of ascent and 698 m of descent and breaks down into six sections. From Zábřeh to Hoštejn, over 9.8 km, it follows the Srní nature trail through gentle terrain. The next 10.9 km lead to Tatenice by way of its railway halt. Then comes the toughest piece, 9.1 km of steady climbing with 368 m of gain to the top of Lázek, followed by a long 8.6 km descent to Albrechtice. After a 7.9 km rise to Výprachtice, the last 5.1 km still hold 383 m of steep climbing up to the finish on Buková hora.

The terrain mixes forest roads, natural paths and tarmac stretches where runners can open up their stride, so much so that the organisers reckon road shoes are a better choice than lugged trail models. The race suits both runners preparing for their first 50K and seasoned ultra runners after a fast distance in the middle of summer. The solo and pairs categories share exactly the same route. Pairs hand over only at the aid stations, splitting the sections however they wish, with the GPS tracker acting as the baton.

Five aid stations, at Hoštejn, Tatenice, Lázek, Albrechtice and Výprachtice, serve water, isotonic drink, cola, seasonal fruit and open sandwiches, and passing through each of them is compulsory. Runners can meet their own crew there to change shoes or clothing, or have one bag per station delivered in advance, which is then taken to the Buková hora resort. No specific kit is required beyond the ID wristband, a visible bib, the GPS tracker supplied and a charged phone. Live tracking lets friends and family follow every runner's progress.

Once across the line, the wristband doubles as a ticket for the covered chairlift, a five-minute ride down to the base of the resort. The Buková hora resort, in the municipality of Červená Voda, welcomes runners with showers, the option of camping until Sunday and breakfast the following morning. Bibs are collected at the start from 8 am, and every participant receives a commemorative medal.
