The Hudson Valley Marathon takes place in Columbia County, New York, near the city of Hudson, in early May. The course offers views of the lakes and ponds of the region, and four distances are on offer: the marathon (26.2 miles), the half marathon (13.1 miles), a 10K and a 5K.

The area rewards a longer stay. The village of Hudson is known for its antique shops and art galleries, Olana State Historic Site preserves the home of painter Frederick Edwin Church, Lake Taghkanic State Park suits a family outing, and Millbrook Vineyards & Winery is under an hour away. For the longer distances, spring hills and variable weather make steady pacing and a flexible clothing plan a good idea.
